Further to our 12.20.23 Client Advisory regarding carrier suspensions of Suez Canal routings, many carriers are now advising of additional surcharges that will be assessed on all shipments effected directly or indirectly by the disruption of services through the Suez Canal and Red Sea.
Some specific carrier examples include:
- Transit Disruption Surcharge (TDS) – Effective immediately for cargo diverted from Suez. Additional charges are effective immediately until further notice and will apply to all diverted shipments. This includes shipments currently ‘on the water’ that have been or will be diverted.
- Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) / Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) for selected markets from 1 January 2024 until further notice.
- Operational Recovery Surcharge (OCR) – An Operations Cost Recovery Surcharge (OCR) is coming into effect for shipments between Indian Subcontinent & Middle East to North America East & Gulf Coast as well as Canada. The OCR will be in effect from December 22, 2023, and is applicable to all containers and cargo types until further notice.
Similar announcements regarding surcharges can be expected from other carriers.
